Doubles Point The Deciding Factor In Women's Tennis Victory

Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team split the singles matches with 64th ranked Colorado, but the Lady Monarchs won two out of the three doubles matches to win the point and earn a 4-3 win over the Buffaloes at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.

Charleen Haarhoff and Nadine Fahoum teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of Barbara Costa and Joanna Dobrowolska captured an 8-5 win at No. 2 to give the Lady Monarchs the doubles point.

In singles action both teams won three matches each with ODU winning at No. 2, 3 and 4. Playing her first match at the No. 2 position, Lady Monarch freshman Nadine Fahoum defeated Camila Belassi in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Dobrowolska and Costa needed three sets to earn their victories, with Costa rallying from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 over Melisa Esposito.
