St. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The 11th ranked Lady Monarch sailors finished second at the USF Women's Intersectional this weekend, behind solid efforts in both divisions. Experience led to a 3rd place finish in A division behind sophomore Katrina Williams and junior Alissa Ayres, just one point out of second in A division. In B division freshman Stephanie Roble and junior Erin Green finished second with 28 total points, just four points from the division win.
Williams and Ayres finished out of the top five in just one of the ten races on the weekend and won the final two races to finish with 31 points. The pair of experience national qualifiers finished among the top three boats in six of the last seven races to cut into Stanford's lead.
The pair of ODU newcomers were extremely impressive in B division, with four wins and nine top five finishes in ten races. Roble and Green finished with just 28 total points in ten races to help ODU defeat the third place team, Navy, by 14 points.
Stanford, ranked third in the country, won the event, but #11 ODU finished ahead of both #2 College of Charleston, #7 Navy and #13 Coast Guard.
