Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team opened up its spring campaign by sweeping the visiting Hoyas of Georgetown University 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center. The match was the first of two on the day for the Lady Monarchs (1-0) who will host Norfolk State at 7 p.m.
The Lady Monarchs cruised to victory in doubles play, winning all three matches by a score of 8-4 to win the doubles point.
ODU's dominance continued in singles action where the Lady Monarchs dropped just one set on the afternoon. Charleen Haarhoff (No. 1), Nadine Fahoum (No. 4) and Joanna Dobrowolska (No. 5) all earned 6-1, 6-1 victories, while Barbara Costa (No. 2) and Jana Kubicikova (No. 6) also won in straight sets. At the No. 3 singles position Daniela Cohen defeated Georgetown's Stephanie Cohen 6-3, 4-6 1-0 (10-5).
