Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University tennis director Darryl Cummings announced today that senior Barbara Costa and junior Charleen Haarhoff have been named team captains for the 2008 season.
Costa finished last season with a singles record of 20-7 and a doubles record of 15-9. She posted a 16-4 dual meet mark playing primarily at the No. 5 singles position where she went 11-3. In addition, 17 of her victories came in straight sets, including three consecutive 6-0, 6-0 wins. Costa recorded a six-match winning streak and had a 6-1 singles record in CAA contests, while posting a mark of 15-9 in doubles play, teaming up with Daniel Cohen for most of the season at No. 3 doubles.
Haarhoff was a second team All-CAA selection last year in both singles and doubles, ranking as high as No. 93 in singles in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings during the week of Jan. 9. She posted a 26-13 singles record and an 18-11 doubles record, finishing the year 17-6 in dual meet competition at the No. 1 singles position and registering 18 straight set victories.
