No. 13/11 Field Hockey Hosts Hofstra, Drexel This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 13/11 Old Dominion field hockey team returns to action at Foreman Field this weekend in a pair of Colonial Athletic Association contests. The Lady Monarchs host Hofstra on Saturday, October 6th and Drexel on Sunday, October 7th. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m. and admission is free.

The Lady Monarchs enter the weekend with a 6-5 overall mark and riding a five-game win streak that has included four shutouts during that span. Old Dominion is also holding to a perfect 3-0 CAA mark and is tied for first in the conference along with No. 8 James Madison.

Sophomore and two-time CAA Player of the Week Titia Beek (Heiloo, Holland) currently leads the team with 16 points stemming from four goals and a team-leading eight assists. She leads the CAA in assists and ranks 11th nationally. Two more sophomores are a top the stat sheet as well. Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) has collected 12 points from five goals and two assists, while Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.) has poured in two goals and four assists for a total of eight point. Senior Jo Ann van Aswegen (Bloemfontien, South Africa) has also registered eight points coming from two goals and four assists. In net, junior Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) holds a 1.81 goals against average and a .779 save percentage.

Beek currently leads the CAA in assists and ranks seventh nationally. Beek and Ueberroth are among the CAA leaders in points. Beek is currently third in the conference averaging 1.45 points per game, while her fellow classmate Ueberroth is tied for ninth with 1.09 points per game. Ueberroth is also tied for eight in goals per game averaging 0.45.

The Pride of Hofstra enters Saturday's contest with a 5-6 overall and and 1-2 record in the CAA. Their lone CAA victory came with a 2-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth last weekend. Both Old Dominion and Hofstra took on Radford during the non-conference portion of the schedule. The Lady Monarchs defeated the Highlanders 8-1, while the Pride emerged with a 2-1 win.

Hofstra is led by junior forwards Charlia Warner and Brit Blankmeyer with 12 points each. Warner has posted four goals and four assists, while Blankmeyer has recorded five goals and two assists. In the cage, rookie netminder Krisha Giammarco is holding on to a 2.51 goals against average and 3.83 save percentage.

Drexel enters the weekend with a 6-6 overall mark and 2-1 record in the CAA. The Dragons will take on William & Mary Friday night before coming to Norfolk.

Drexel is led by sophomore midfielder Carolina Gibernau with 11 points coming from four goals and three assists. She is followed on the stat sheet by junior forward Amanda Kicera with two goals, four assists, and eight points. In goal, junior Colleen McAndrew holds a .774 goals against average and 1.52 save percentage.

Following this weekend's action at Foreman Field, the Lady Monarchs hit the road to face No. 2 Maryland on Friday, October 12th and then return home to host Duke on Sunday, October 14th.
