COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 10 Old Dominion field hockey team had its seven-game win streak snapped Friday night as the Lady Monarchs fell to No. 2 Maryland, 4-1. With the victory the Terps remain undefeated at 15-0 and sweep the home-and-home series with the Lady Monarchs.

The Old Dominion win streak dated back to Sept. 16th with a 1-0 victory against Duke. The Lady Monarchs fall to 8-6 overall with the loss.

The Lady Monarchs did have a lead against the two-time defending national champions as they struck first, taking 1-0 lead two minutes into the contest. Sophomore Hanna Warren (Green Lane Pa.) gave the Lady Monarchs the early lead on a penalty corner with senior Shannon Mobley (Va. Beach, Va.) on the assist. The Old Dominion lead marked only the second time the Terps trailed all season.

Maryland, however, evened the score in the 16th minute as Janneke van Leeuwen used a hard flick over Lady Monarch netminder Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) beginning the first of four unanswered Terrapin goals.

The game remained tied at 1-1 for the next 38 minutes until the Terps struck again on a penalty corner attempt with Ellen Ott recording the goal

Maryland's Katie O'Donnell, a member of the U.S. National Team with former Lady Monarch standouts Tiffany Snow, Angie Loy, Melissa Leonetti, Dana Sensenig, and Caroline Nichols, knocked in the next two Terp goals within a one-minute span.

Maryland outshot Old Dominion, 20-2, and outcornered the Monarchs, 5-2.

In goal for Old Dominion, Driscoll made 10 stops, including seven in the first half of action.

The Lady Monarchs return to action on Sunday, October 14th to close out the home-and-home series with No. 11/13 Duke at 1:00 p.m.. The Lady Monarchs won the previous meeting, a 1-0 victory in Durham back on September 16th. The Blue Devils will be in action on Satuday, October 13th when they take on Longwood in a neutral site contest at Foreman Field at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free to both contests.
