Three Lady Monarchs in Top Five at MAISA Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- After the first day at the Faye Bennet MAISA Women's Singlehanded Championship Regatta three Lady Monarchs are in contention to qualify for the national championship. Freshman Stephanie Roble is in the lead with 38 points after the first nine races while sophomore Katrina Williams and freshman Morgan Wilson finished 4th and 5th respectively. The top five sailors will qualify for the ICSA Women's National Championship held the first weekend of November.

Roble is leading after the first day with three first place finishes in nine races. She also finished third twice and never finished out of the top ten. Her 38 points is currently four points ahead of second place.

Williams, an ICSA National qualifier a year ago is looking for her second trip to the national stage. She finished in first once and in second once while racing to fourth place through Saturday. She has compiled 64 points, just four points out of the top five.

Freshman Morgan Wilson finished first once, second once and third once in the nine races and is currently tied with fellow Lady Monarch sailor Katrina Williams with 64 points.

The top ten are extremely close making way for exciting racing on Sunday. Only 14 points separate the final qualifying slot from the 10th place boat.

The sailors will return to the water Sunday morning at the Naval Academy.
