ST. MARY'S, Md. -- The Monarchs were able to gain ground and finish in 7th place overall at the St. Mary's Open regatta over the weekend. The freshman team in B division of Ryan Ramming and Dixie House paced ODU on the second day to hoist ODU up to 7th. The Monarchs finished with 158 points, just 18 points out of the top five.
In B division, Ramming and House finished among the top seven in six of the final seven races and only finished out of the top ten in one race of the 12 finished in Maryland. The strong finish on day two included a second place finish and two fourth place efforts. The B division boat finished in 5th place.
In A division, junior Mikey Brown and sophomore Ashley Brusso finished 7th after both days of racing. Day two included a win in the final race for the two sailors as well as a second and a fourth place finish. Brown and Brusso finished in the top ten in all but one race on the weekend as well, and tallied 84 points. They were just 14 points out of the top five in A division.
The co-ed team was ranked 18th nationally by Sailing World in the latest rankings.
