ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Junior Bobby Noonan finished strong at the regatta, including two wins and a second place effort in the final five races, but it proved too little, too late for the Monarch as he narrowly missed qualifying for the MAISA Championship. Three Monarchs finished in the top ten at the event, including Noonan at 5th place overall after 18 races. John and Kevin Shockey placed 9th and 10th respectively, while Gillen Elder finished 20th in Annapolis.
Noonan finished with 147 points, 25 points behind the fourth and final qualifying spot. He finished in the top ten in 12 of the 18 races on the weekend, including three wins and seven top four finishes.
John Shockey finished ninth overall with 166 points in 18 races. He grabbed six top five finishes and, like Noonan, had a strong second day. In seven of the 10 races on the second day, Shockey finished among the top ten. He finished in the top 10 in ten races.
His brother Kevin Shockey also fared well on the second day. In the ten races, Kevin finished second and third once each and was in the top ten in six races. He finished the regatta in 10th place with 172 points. He also managed 10 top ten finishes in the event.
Junior Gillen Elder rounded out the Monarch sailors at the event with a 20th place effort. Like the other Monarchs, Elder saw his best finishes on day two, near the end of the regatta. He sailed to a regatta-high 12th place in two of the final three races.
