Monarchs Struggle At UVA Fall Invite

Charlottesville, Va. - The Old Dominion University men's tennis team got off to a slow start in its fall opener, as the Monarchs went 1-4 in singles play during the opening day of the UVA Fall Invitational in Charlottesville.

Alex Seleznev earned the Monarchs' only victory of the day with a win in the Yellow singles bracket. Seleznev opened the competition against the 62nd ranked Roy Sichel of Charlotte and won the first set 6-0. However, Sichel rallied to take the final two sets 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. Seleznev bounced back in the consolation quarterfinals to defeat Penn State's Adam Slagter 7-5, 6-3.

Senior Eidy Igarashi also competed in the Yellow singles bracket where he fell in the opening round 6-4, 6-4 to North Carolina State's Jay Weinacker, ranked No. 125 in the country.

Yakov Diskin was the final Monarch to compete on Friday and he was beaten in straight sets by Alex Stone of Duke 6-1, 7-5 in the White singles bracket.
