ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Junior Bobby Noonan narrowly missed qualifying for the MAISA Singlehanded Championship as he finished 7th at the Navy Laser Open this weekend. Noonan was among the top five sailors at the event that earn an automatic bid into the conference championship, but had a rough finish to just miss qualifying. Sophomore Kevin Shockey finished just behind Noonan in 8th place and senior Michael Collins finished in 11th among 20 of the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association's top male sailors.
Noonan won four of the 20 races and finished among the top six sailors in ten. He would finish with 143 total points for the seventh place finish. Jesse Kirkland of St. Mary's College (Md.) would get hot at the end of the regatta, finishing with 7 straight top six finishes to take advantage of the final qualifying spot as Noonan struggled.
Shockey finished with a consistent regatta, finishing among the top six in nine races and had four fourth place and two third place finishes. He would tally 154 points for eighth place.
Collins raced to 11th place with 197 total points in the regatta. He finished third in one race during the event.
