NORFOLK, Va. - The 2007 Old Dominion field hockey team kicked off the season by squaring off against the alumni on Saturday afternoon at Foreman Field. The alumni, featuring the five former Lady Monarchs on the U.S. National Team, defeated the current members, 5-3. Sophomore Titia Beek (Heiloo, Holland) led the squad with two goals.

The alumni got on the board first as last year's leading scoring Dana Sensenig scored from the left post with 26:08 on the clock. Beek would manage to tie the score with a shot across the cage that landed in the right corner at the 13:59 mark. 2006 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year Caroline Nichols put the alums back into the lead moments later on an assist from ODU field hockey's first Honda Award Winner Yogi Hightower. Hightower's pass bounced through the circle to Nichols' stick in front of the goal. Senior Shannon Mobley (Va. Beach, Va.) tied the game at 2-2 at the 5:10 mark off a rebound from a penalty corner attempt. The alumni took a 3-2 edge into halftime as Sue Dano rounded out the first half scoring with a goal with 18 seconds left.

Beek tied the game for the Lady Monarchs at the 26:04 mark of the second half on her second goal of the game. However, the alumni scored the last two goals of the game for the win. Nichols scored her second goal for the alumni lifting a rebound off a penalty corner into the cage with 11:27 left and 2002 Honda Award Winner Tiffany Snow put away the final goal of the day with 9:30 remaining.
