NORFOLK, VA -- Rising junior and starting keeper for the Monarchs Lauren Tupman was named to the United Soccer Leagues Super-20 All North American League Team last week. Tupman and the Hampton Roads Piranhas finished the summer regular season with a 7-1 record, allowing just four goals. The Piranhas advanced to the 2007 Super 20 League Finals in New Hampshire where they finished 2-0-1 with more stellar defense, allowing just two goals in the finals.
Tupman was one of three women on the Hampton Roads Piranhas making the All-League team. She joins William & Mary's Meredith Brown and UAB's Caitlin Marple on the team. Tupman posted seven shutouts in the 9-1-1 season en route to the honor.
In the finals, the Piranhas shutout the Brooklyn Knights, 1-0 to advance. They then tied the eventual runner-up Quickstrike FC, 2-2, before trouncing Seacoast United, 3-0, in the teams final game of the tournament.
Tupman played with ODU teammates Marilee Mastaler, Jodi Knorowski, Chika Umejei and Ashley Kukura on the Super 20 team. The junior netminder notched seven shutouts last season and posted a 1.21 goals against average.
The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs season begins September 2 at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium at 1:00 pm. ODU will face off against Loyola College (Md.) in the first game of the 2007 season as the Lady Monarchs begin their defense of their first ever CAA crown.
