Shawler, Zahm and Burns Earn All-East Region Honors

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University sophomore righthander Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.), senior outfielder Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE) and junior designated hitter David Burns (Jacksonville, FL.) have been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region squad. Shawler was selected to the first team, while Zahm and Burns were named second team members.

Shawler was 11-2 with a 2.20 earned run average along with 130 strikeouts,Three shutouts and eight complete games to lead the Colonial Athletic Association.

Mike Zahm led the team with a .371 batting average, 60 runs scored and 85 hits.He also hit seven homeruns, 23 doubles with 61 runs batted in. He ranked in thetop ten of the CAA in doubles, hitting, RBI and runs scored.

David Burns led the Monarchs with eight homers and tied Zahm for theteam RBI leadership with 61.

The CAA, which had 17 players drafted in the Major League Baseball draftearlier this month, dominated the two all-region squads with a total of 18 players onThe teams, including eight on the first team.
