Shawler and Hudson Named First Team All-CAA

WILMINGTON, NC--Old Dominion University sophomore pitchers Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.-Oscar Smith HS ) and Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, VA.-Princess Anne HS.) were named to the first team All-CAA squad as selected by the league coaches. Senior outfielder Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE.) earned second team honors in the outfield, while freshman thirdbaseman Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.-Princess Anne HS) was named to the CAA's All-Rookie squad. The top seeded Monarchs (33-22) open the tournament Wednesday at noon against sixth seed Georgia State.

Shawler led the CAA in wins (10-2), earned run average (2.30), shutouts (3), complete games (7), strikeouts (120/105.2 innings), and was named CAA Pitcher of the Week three times. Dan Hudson was 7-5 this year, ranked ninth in ERA (3.69), and second to Shawler in strikeouts (104/97.2 IP).

Mike Zahm is a second team All-CAA outfielder for the second straight year. He ranked sixth in the CAA with a .389 batting average, fourth in RBI with 60 and tied for fourth with teammate Chris Keenan (Chesapaeke, VA.-Great Bridge HS. ) in runs scored with 58. Zahm hit six homers and ranked second in the CAA with 23 doubles and fourth in walks with 33. Jake McAloose started 54 games as a freshman at thirdbase. He hit .308 with 38 RBI, and 45 runs scored.

James Madison's Kellen Kulbacki and William and Mary's Greg Sexton were named CAA Co-Players of the Year, while Coach of the Year honors went to Delaware's Jim Sherman. Outfielder Matt Prokopowicz of Hofstra was Rookie of the Year and Sergio Miranda of VCU was the league's top defensive player. Follow all the live action of the tournament on www.caasports.com.
