Monarchs Travel To Richmond For CAA Series Against VCU

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Monarchs (21-13/9-3) hit the road again for a three-game CAA series at Virginia Commonwealth (18-11/4-4). The seriesbegins Friday night at The Diamond at 7 p.m.

This series pits the top two pitching staffs in the Colonial AthleticAssociation. ODU's team ERA is 4.03 while the Rams are at 4.82.

ODU will be led by senior outfielder Mike Zahm who is hitting .415with 43 runs batted in. Freshman thirdbaseman Jake McAloose is nextat .357 with 29 RBI and designated hitter David Burns leads the teamwith seven homers, 46 RBI and a .344 batting average.

On the mound, sophomore Dan Hudson is 5-2 with a 2.73 ERA, AnthonyShawler is 7-0 with a 2.83 ERA. Shawler has 75 strikeouts in 60.1innings of work.

VCU is led by Jared Bolden with a.409 batting average and has 11steals. Chris Jackson is second with a .373 batting average anda team high 31 RBI. On the mound John Leonard is 3-1 with a 3.77 ERAand Phillip Dean is 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA. Luke Prisker leads theRams with four saves and has a 5-0 record with a 2.86 ERA.Last year, ODU won two of three from VCU coached by ODU alumniPaul Keyes ('84).
