NORFOLK, VA--Sophomore righthander Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.)threw a complete game four-hit shutout to lead Old Dominion (27-16/14-5) to a 4-0victory over Delaware (14-18/7-9) Saturday evening. Shawler is now 9-0 overall,5-0 in the CAA. This was his third shutout and fifth complete game of the year.
In the fourth inning Shawler led off with a single, the David Burns (Jacksonville, FL. ) followed with another single. After a Delaware error Cameron Scott's (Culpepper, Va.) sacrifice fly plated Shawler from third with the games first run.
In the fifth inning, Chris Keenan(Chesapeake, VA.) singled and later scored on awild pitch. David Burns then singled home Shawler to make it 3-0, and with the basesloaded and two outs, Cameron Scott walked to bring home Burns.
Shawler fanned 12 on the night and walked two. Delaware threatened in thesixth inning when Ryan Jablonski doubled with one out and Alex Buchholz walked withtwo outs, but Shawler got a flyball out from CAA homerun leader Bryan Hagerich to get out of the jam. Shawler lowered his ERA to 2.48 with 98 strikeouts in 83.1 innings.
Senior outfielder Nick Erdman(Leola, PA.) led ODU with three hits, while Shawler and David Burns each had two hits on the day. Shawler scored twice and Cameron Scott knocked in two runs. The final game of the three-game CAA series is Sunday at 2 p.m.
