NORFOLK, VA--Sophomore righthander Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, Va.)tossed a complete game four-hitter, fanning a career high 15 batters as Old Dominion(26-16/13-5) defeated Delaware (14-17/7-8), 2-1 in a CAA contest Friday night.The loss ended Delaware's seven-game winning streak.
In the eighth, Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE.) tripled with one out and scored on Anthony Shawler's (Chesapeake, Va.) sacrifice fly.
Hudson and Delaware's Billy Harris locked in a pitchers duel all night. Harrisfanned ten in seven innings of work which is one shy of his career high. Hudson pitchinghis first complete game of the year, walked no one and only allowed one hit after thefourth inning. Hudson lowered his ERA to 2.75.
Delaware scored in the fourth to take the lead as Alex Buchholz doubled with one out and came home on Adam Tsakonas' single. ODU came back in the bottomof the frame as David Burns (Jacksonville, Fl.) reached on an error and after advancing to third on the next two ground outs, came home on another Delaware error to tie the game.
Alex Buchholz and Adam Tsakonas led Delaware with two hits each while MikeZahm, the CAA's sixth leading hitter had two hits for ODU. He is now hitting .412.Game two is Saturday at 5 p.m.
