RICHMOND, VA -- Old Dominion earned an All-Conference slot in four of the five relay events while Patrik Balint (Budapest, Hungary) and Tyler Haverty (Virginia Beach, Virginia) also earned honors for individual events. Balint led the team with six All-CAA accolades including a first place finish in the 200 backstroke.
Balint led the Monarchs at the CAA Championship by contributing 174 team points, nearly half of the entire team total. His three-peat of the 200 backstroke title earned the team 20 points as he finished in 1:48.73. He also added 17 individual points to the team total in the 100 backstroke, in a time of 50.02, a new school record.
Haverty also added two individual All-CAA accolades with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:41.12) and a third place effort in the 100 free (46.00). He also just missed his third All-CAA honor with a fourth place finish in the 50 free (20.83). He contributed a team-high 183 points to the team total in his seven events.
Haverty joined Balint on three relay teams that earned All-CAA honors while Balint added a fourth. The first place 400 freestyle relay team consisted of Balint, Haverty, Ryan Tinney, and Chad Gangwer (3:02.96). The same four also finished third in the 800 freestyle relay in 6:46.83.
Haverty and Balint were joined by Daniel Lundberg and Kevin Latimer in the third place 400 medley relay (3:23.52) while Balint combined with Lundberg, Tinney and Garrett Opp in the 200 medley relay for third place in 1:33.54.
The CAA Office also released the yearly awards for swimming and diving. On the men's side, the Swimmer of the Year was George Mason senior Tom Koucheravy and Drexel's Brett Molash was named Diver of the Year. For the women, William & Mary's Katie Radloff was named Swimmer of the year while Kate Hynes of Drexel earned Diver of the Year honors.
The Monarchs men's team finished in 5th place at the CAA Championships and the women's team finished tied for 10th.
