NORFOLK, VA--Towson senior righthander Joe Peeler and two relieversscattered seven hits to lead the Tigers (14-18/6-7) to a 5-1 CAA victory over OldDominion (24-15/11-5) Friday evening at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.Because of an impending rainstorm, Saturday's game has been moved up to 3 p.m.
After a scoreless duel for four innings between Peeler and ODU's Dan Hudsonwho ranks third in the CAA in ERA (2.97), Towson got on the board with three runs in the fifth. Kevin Collins singled home Gary Helmick, and Nick Natoli then scored on an ODU throwing error. Kyle Skellchock doubled home Collins to make 3-0.
ODU scored in the bottom of the fifth when Tyler Belcher and Nick Erdmanstarted the inning off with back-to-back singles. Belcher scored from third on GerardHall's groundout. Towson added two more runs in the seventh as A.J. Tinnirella singledhome Hans Falkenhan with the bases loaded. Steve Yarsinsky's groundout platedBrian Conley to make it 5-1.
Joe Peeler pitched six-plus innings with just one walk and two strikeouts forhis third win of the season. Tyler Travis got Towson out of a jam in the seventh whenODU had runners at first and third with one out. Jon Dupski then came on in the eighthwith Mike Zahm on second and David Burns on first with one out. He got out of thejam with a line-out double-play. It was Dupski's first save of the season.
Nick Erdman led ODU with two hits, while Ryan Schreiter, A.J. Tinnirella, GaryHelmick and Kevin Collins each had two hits for Towson.
