NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs (24-14/11-4) hosts Towson (13-18/5-7) in the three-game CAA series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.In the latest NCAA statistics, Mike Zahm, AnthonyShawler and Chris Keenan rank among the nation's best.
Senior outfielder Mike Zahm ranks 34th in hitting (.412), 12th in runs batted in per game (1.42), and 21st in doubles (18). Chris Keenan ranks19th nationally in runs scored per game (1.27),while Anthony Shawlerranks 11th in wins (7-0),37th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.3), and fifth in strikeouts (77), and Dan Hudson is 30th with 63 strikeouts. David Burns is 25th in RBI per game (1.3), Tyler Belcher is 39th in doubles per game(0.44).
As a team, ODU ranks 34th nationally in hitting (.316), 16th in scoring(8.0), 15th in doubles (2.43), and 31st in strikeouts per nine innings(8.0).
In the CAA statistical rankings, The Monarchs lead the CAA in pitching with a 3.88 ERA and fourth in hitting. Mike Zahm is fifth in the CAA in hitting,leads in doubles (18), and RBI (50). Zahm ranks fifth i the CAAin on base percentage at .489. Chris Keenan leads the league in runs scored at 1.24 per game.
Dan Hudson is third in the CAA in ERA at 2.84, while Shawler is fifth at 2.89. Shawler (10.29) and Hudson (8.9) are one-two in the CAA in strikeouts, while Ryan Bergh (6.9) is fourth and Dexter Carter (8.8)is fifth. Ross Fetterly is tied for third in saves with four.
ODU and Towson have met 27 times, with ODU leading the series, 16-11.Last year, The Tigers defeated ODU twice, with ODU winning the 18 inningaffair, 9-8.
Brian Conley ranks fourth in the CAA in on base percentage at .500 andseventh in slugging percentage at .680. He is tied for ninth in homerunswith eight. Ryan Schreiter ranks eighth i hitting at .396.
Pitching probables for the weekend. Towson is scheduled to throwNate Curd (1-1, 5.18), Joe Peeler, (2-1, 5.92), and Matt Holley(2-1, 5-14). ODU is scheduled to throw Dan Hudson, Anthony Shawler andRyan Bergh.
