Women's Lax Returns To Win Column With 10-7 Victory Over Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- After the Temple Owls took a 2-0 lead, the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team rattled off eight unanswered goals en-route to its 10-7 win at Greasey Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Monarchs return to the win column following its loss at the hands of top-ranked North Carolina to improve to 3-1 overall and are off to their best start since the 2003 season. The Owls meanwhile fell to 2-5.

Senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs (Gaithersburg, Md.) led all Lady Monarchs with three goals, while junior Kelly Kimener (Oakton, Va.) and freshman Ashley Kellogg (Downingtown, Pa.) each netted a pair.

Temple's Casey Cech led all scorers recorded four of the Owl's seven goals.

The Owls went up 2-0 in the game's first three minutes, but the Lady Monarchs would hold Temple scoreless the rest of the half. Old Dominion scored six unanswered goal to end the half and eight overall as the scoring rally entered half number two.

Less than two minutes after Temple took its 2-0 advantage, Kellogg put away ODU's first goal of the afternoon to get the Lady Monarchs onto the scoreboard. Four minutes later, Kaelyn Schival (Horsham, Pa.) tied the game up at 2-2 with 21:11 remaining in the half. Senior Katie Veneziale (Downingtown, Pa.) scored exactly a minute later to give Old Dominion the lead for good. The Lady Monarchs would enter the half with a 6-2 lead.

Temple would not score until the 15:16 mark of the second half, going on to score four consecutive goals to close the gap to 8-6. The Owl's Chelsea Rosiek scored the final goal of the rally at the 11:06 mark to pull her team within two, but her squad would not score again the rest of the way.

Old Dominion registered three more insurance goals to close the game for the final 10-7 margin.

In net, junior Sara Larson (Sylvan Lake, Mich.) played the entire game recording 10 saves. Her counterpart, Bridget McMullan, made five stops in the loss.

Temple held a slight advantage in groundballs, 15-12, with Old Dominion led by Jacobs with three. Veneziale and Kellogg each scooped up two.

The Owls also held the advantage in the draw control category, 12-7. Jacobs once again led the way with three, followed by senior Kristen Truax (Daleville, Va.) with two.

The Lady Monarch women's lacrosse team returns to action on Monday, March 26th when they take on No. 18 (IWLCA)/19 (Inside Lacrosse) Rutgers. Game-time is set fo 3:00 p.m.
