NORFOLK, Va.--Sophomore righthander Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.)pitched a complete game allowing three runs on seven hits, fanning four as Old Dominion (18-11/6-2) defeated UNC Wilmington (12-14/4-4), 4-3 Saturday afternoonat the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Shawler, the CAA Player of the Week is now 6-0 on the season with a 2.92earned run average and four complete games. Jeff Hatcher pitched six innings for UNCW, as three of the four runs he gave up were unearned.

UNCW scored first as Steve Halford led off the second with a double andscored on Mark Carver's sacrifice fly. ODU tied the game in the bottom half of theframe as Nick Erdman (Leola, PA.) singled and Cameron Scott (Culpepper, VA.) doubled him home with two outs.

In the ODU fifth, Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) singled home Gerard Hall (Washington, DC. )who reached on an error. David Burns (Jacksonville, FL.) groundout plated Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA.) , and Tyler Belcher(Bristol, VA.) doubled down the leftfield line to score McAloose to make it 4-1.

The defending CAA Champion Seahawks rallied in the seventh with two runs.Kevin Hodges walked, Nate Hall doubled down the rightfield line and Matt Holtwalked to load the bases. Rhett Miller singled to knock in both Hall and Hodges cuttingODU's lead to 4-3. Shawler then got the next two outs to get out of the jam, and retiredthe Seahawks in order in the eighth and ninth innings.

Jake McAloose, Tyler Belcher and Nick Erdman each had two hits for theMonarchs, while Steve Halford led UNCW with two hits. Game three of the CAA seriesis Sunday at 2 p.m.
