No. 26 Men's Tennis Defeats Georgetown For Third Straight Win

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The No. 26 Old Dominion men's team won its third straight and four of their last five outings by downing Georgetown, 6-1, while playing on the campus of Christopher Newport University on Friday. The win improves the Monarchs overall record to 11-4.

Doubles play saw the Monarchs sweep all three positions en-route to taking its first point of the afternoon. Both the No. 1 doubles duo of No. 26 Henrique Cancado and Harel Srugo and the No. 2 doubles group of Alex Seleznev and Eidy Igarshi posted wins by an 8-3 score.

Singles action saw the Monarchs win the first five matches at the top five positions. Rodrigo Souza at fifth singles clinched the win for Old Dominion. Souza used a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Georgetown's Adam Gross to give the Monarchs their 11th win of the season.

Other victors for Old Dominion in singles was No. 17 Harel Srugo with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Will Lowell at No. 1 singles and No. 27 Henrique Cancado at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Anthony Tau. At No. 3 singles, Alex Seleznev posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jeffrey Schnell and No. 4 singles had Eidy Igarashi wrap up the singles wins with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 win over Jeffery Schnell.

The Monarch men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday when they host #20 Virginia Commonwealth.
