CONWAY, SC--Bryan Thomas knocked in three runs, whileSean O'Brien and Steve Bumbry each knocked in two as Virginia TechDefeated Old Dominion 10-3 in the first round of the Coastal CarolinaBaseball Tournament. ODU is 4-1 and the Hokies are 1-0.

Virginia Tech scored four unearned runs in the first two innings.The Monarchs first run came on Chris Keenan's (Chesapeake, Va.) sacrificefly which plated Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.).

The Monarchs scored two more runs in the eighth as freshmanJake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit his first collegiate homer withDavid Burns (Jacksonville, FL.) aboard.

Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE) led the Monarchs with three hits whileFreshman Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) had two hits. The MonarchsHad ten hits on the day, but left eight on base.

Sophomore righthander Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, Va.) tookThe loss, giving up seven runs (only three earned). Greg Fryman withRelief help from Rhett Ballard picked up the win for the Hokies.

ODU returns to action on Saturday when they play tournament hostCoastal Carolina at 12 noon.
