RADIO: For the 16th-straight season ESPN Radio (1310 am - Norfolk, Va.) will be broadcasting all the Lady Monarch contests. Thirteen-time sportscaster of the Year Tony Mercurio will call all the action. Former Lady Monarch and ODU Hall of Fame inductee, Adrienne Goodson and former assistant coach Susan Montgomery will join Mercurio and add color commentary at all home games at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. A monthly fee of $6.95 through the College Pass program, which also provides the audio and video broadcasts of over 100 colleges and universities, will allow fans to listen to the broadcast online at www.odusports.com.
ABOUT OLD DOMINION: The Old Dominion women's basketball team extended its win streak to nine as they closed out the season series with Virginia Commonwealth and met up with William & Mary for its first meeting of the year. Last Thursday, the Lady Monarchs defeated VCU, 84-62, handing the Rams a loss for the second time this season. It was neck-and-neck for much of the first half with 10 ties, seven lead changes, and neither team able to establish more than a three-point lead until the final minutes of the half. Junior guard T.J. Jordan tied the game for the 10th and final time at the 1:29 mark knotting the score at 27-27. Her lay-up began a 8-0 run, with six consecutive points coming from Jordan. Old Dominion entered the half ahead, 33-27. In the first five minutes of the second half, Old Dominion held the Rams without a field goal. The Rams pulled no closed than ten in the second half. Senior Sherida Triggs posted her first double-double of the year and 10th of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan led the troops with 20 points, the fifth time she
ABOUT HOFSTRA: The Hofstra Pride enters Sunday's contest with a 16-5 overall mark and 6-4 CAA mark having gone back and forth in the win loss column over the last seven games. The Pride is coming off a 72-63 win over Northeastern Thursday night. Hofstra has four pouring in double digits is led by Vanessa Gidden at 14.5 points along with a team-second best 8.1 rebounds. Gidden, who was held to just one point in the first meeting with the Lady Monarchs, is currently seventh in the conference in scoring and ninth in rebounding. Cigi McCollin is averaging 14.1 points per game and 11th in the league in scoring, while Lizanne Murphy is averaging 11.8 points per outing. Lana Harsahw rounds out the Pride's double figure scorers pouring in 11.2 points per game and also averaging a team-leading 9.6 rebounds per game. Her rebounding efforts place her second in the conference.
SERIES WITH HOFSTRA: Old Dominion holds a 13-1 record in the all-time series with Hofstra. Hofstra's lone win in the series came on January 18th, 2004 as the Pride edged the Lady Monarchs, 72-74. Since that loss, the Lady Monarchs have collected eight straight wins over the Pride including their last 100 point game with a 105-62 win at the Constant Center on February 12, 2004 and last season's 94-73 CAA semifinal win. Old Dominion won the first meeting this season handing the Pride a 74-59 loss at the Constant Center.
LAST TIME VS. HOFSTRA: Junior Tay Ransburg collected her first double-double as a Lady Monarch as she was one of six Lady Monarchs in double figures in a 74-59 win over Hofstra at the Ted Constant Convocation Center back on January 14th.With the game tied at 13-13 with 12:07 left in the first half, Old Dominion used a 10-0 run capped by four consecutive points by Ransburg to take control of the lead for good. Free throws by Lana Harshaw would cut the Pride deficit to six a few minutes later, but Hofstra would get no closer the rest of the game. A Ransburg lay-up gave the Lady Monarchs a double figure lead for good, 33-22, with 1:34 on the clock and Old Dominion entered the half ahead, 36-24. The second half saw Old Dominion lead by as many as 21 and then thwart a late Hofstra rally. A Shahida Williams bucket gave Old Dominion its largest lead of the game, 56-35, with 11:42 left in the game, however over the next eight minutes the Lady Monarch lead would be reduced to ten. Following Williams' score, the Pride outscored the Lady Monarchs 20-9, with all but one point netted by Hofstra's Cigi McCollin and Lizanne Murphy. McCollin registered 11 points during the rally, while Murphy recorded eight. Over the final 3:08 the Pride would be held to four points while Ransburg poured in six of the Lady Monarchs' final nine for the final 15-point margin. Ransburg finished the game with 13 points and 12 rebounds. T.J. Jordan registered 15 points along with five assists. Redshirt sophomore Tiffany Green added in 11, while Williams and senior Sherida Triggs each netted 10. McCollin, who only had three points at the half and exploded for 17 in the second half, led the Pride was with a game-high 20 points. Murphy had 16 points and dished out five assists, while Harshaw rounded out the Pride double figure scorers with 13. Old Dominion won the battle of the boards, 40-36, after being outrebounded in the first half, 23-15. The Lady Monarchs shot a season-best 52.9 percent (27-of-51) from the field. From the line, Old Dominion overcame its 42.9 percent showing in the first half to hit 11-of-12 in the second half to connect for 91.7 percent.

CAA LOSSES: Losses aren't very common for the Lady Monarchs, but they do happen. The 50-79 loss to James Madison is just one of 16 losses ODU has suffered since joining the CAA back in the 1991-92 season. Of those 16 losses, six have come at the hands of James Madison. Old Dominion has suffered at least one CAA loss in 11 of 16 seasons in the league. There are still five opponents in the CAA though that have not defeated the Lady Monarchs. The 29-point loss to the Dukes however was the largest CAA loss for the Lady Monarchs. Its previous largest margin of defeat in conference action was a 17-point ering a 57-71 loss at East Carolina on February 22, 1992.
FIRST TEAM TARGETS: The Old Dominion defense has held two of the five members of the Preseason First Team All-CAA team to three points thus far. The Lady Monarchs held Hofstra's Vanessa Gidden to one point on 0-of-7 shooting from the floor and CAA Preseason Player of the Year Kyra Kaylor to just two points on 1-of-11 shooting. Coming off a career-high equaling 30 point night in a win at Georgia State, Kaylor was held scoreless through the first half and didn't notch her first points until the 15:20 mark of the second half. Kaylor entered the game averaging 14.6 points per game and was ninth in the league in scoring. James Madison's Meredith Alexis did manage to score 21 points against the Lady Monarchs. Alexis was held only to five field goals, with 11 of her game-high 21 points coming from the free throw line.
FROM DOWNTOWN: Junior guard T.J. Jordan is third in the country in three-point field goals made with 3.1 per game and is is 83rd in three-point field goal percentage at .352. She has 902 career points which puts on track to reach 1,000 points in about seven games (or so). She has 62 three-point field goals this season and 202 for her career. Aubrey Eblin holds the school record in both categories with 97 treys made during the 1997-98 season and 250 made during her career.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Three Lady Monarchs have double-doubles under their belt, one of which was collected in the first meeting against the Pride. Redshirt sophomore Tiffany Green became the first Lady Monarch to perform a double-double this season with a 17-point, 12-rebound effort against Chicago State on Dec. 9th. She followed with her second double-double in the following game with 11 points and 10 rebounds on Dec. 17 at Charlotte. Junior Tay Ransburg 13 points and 12 rebounds on Jan. 11 against Georgia State for her first double point and rebounding effort as a Lady Monarch. Senior Sherida Triggs had 14 points and 10 boards in the series finale with VCU on Jan. 25th for her first double of the year and 10th of her career.
DISH IT TO ME: Sophomore Jazzmin Walters continues to grow in her role as the Lady Monarchs starting point guard. The second year Lady Monarch dished out eight assists, tying both her career and season-high while committing only one turnover against Virginia Commonwealth on January 25th. Additionally she tied her season and career high with four steals. Walters needs four more assists to crack the top 10 sophomore assist leaders list. She currently has 75.
