Six Reach Double Figures In 74-59 Lady Monarch Win Over Hofstra

NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior Tay Ransburg (Kansas City, Mo.) collected her first double-double as a Lady Monarch as she was one of six Lady Monarchs in double figures in Sunday afternoon's 74-59 win over Hofstra at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The win, Old Dominion's fifth straight, puts the Lady Monarchs above .500 for the first time this season. The Lady Monarchs hold on to a 8-7 overall mark and perfect 4-0 mark in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. The Pride, who are the fifth team the Lady Monarchs have faced this season receiving votes in the national polls, falls to 13-3 overall and 3-2 in the league race.

With the game tied at 13-13 with 12:07 left in the first half, Old Dominion used a 10-0 run capped by four consecutive points by Ransburg to take control of the lead for good. Free throws by Lana Harshaw would cut the Pride deficit to six a few minutes later, but Hofstra would get no closer the rest of the game. A Ransburg lay-up gave the Lady Monarchs a double figure lead for good, 33-22, with 1:34 on the clock and Old Dominion entered the half ahead, 36-24.

The second half saw Old Dominion lead by as many as 21 and then thwart a late Hofstra rally. A Shahida Williams (Newark, N.J.) bucket gave Old Dominion its largest lead of the game, 56-35, with 11:42 left in the game, however over the next eight minutes the Lady Monarch lead would be reduced to ten. Following Williams' score, the Pride outscored the Lady Monarchs 20-9, with all but one point netted by Hofstra's Cigi McCollin and Lizanne Murphy. McCollin registered 11 points during the rally, while Murphy recorded eight.

Over the final 3:08 the Pride would be held to four points while Ransburg poured in six of the Lady Monarchs' final nine for the final 15-point margin.

Ransburg finished the game with 13 points and 12 rebounds. T.J. Jordan (Portmouth, Va.) registered 15 points along with five assists. Redshirt sophomore Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) added in 11, while Williams and senior Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) each netted 10.

McCollin, who only had three points at the half and exploded for 17 in the second half, led the Pride was with a game-high 20 points. Murphy had 16 points and dished out five assists, while Harshaw rounded out the Pride double figure scorers with 13.

Old Dominion won the battle of the boards, 40-36, after being outrebounded in the first half, 23-15.

The Lady Monarchs shot a season-best 52.9 percent (27-of-51) from the field. From the line, Old Dominion overcame its 42.9 percent showing in the first half to hit 11-of-12 in the second half to connect for 91.7 percent.

Old Dominion hits the road for its next two games. The Lady Monarchs return to action on Thursday, January 18th at George Mason and Sunday, January 21st at Drexel.
