ITHACA, NY -- The MAISA Fall Championship was the last chance for the women sailors to qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championship. Coach Brindley looked to a quartet of seasoned sophomore females and was not disappointed. ODU finished 6th and will compete in the ACC next weekend.
All four sailors that competed this weekend in Ithaca have championship experience. Sophomores Alissa Ayres and Jenica Ryan of A division along with Jaci Finney and Elyssa Albert of B division were all a part of the Monarch sailing team that went to the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association's National Championship last spring.
Finny and Albert gave the boost from B division finishing in 5th. The two ladies finished in the top five in 7 of the 11 heats raced in New York this weekend. Combined with the consistency of A division to stay in the middle of the pack, the group of second-year sailors will now compete in the fall's biggest two handed sailing championship.
This Saturday and Sunday, the 11-12, the ACC Women's Dinghy Championships will be held in King's Point, NY at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. ODU will compete agiainst 17 of the best teams on the east coast.
