NORFOLK - Old Dominion University is currently planning the renovation and expansion of Foreman Field, a 20,000 seat on-campus stadium, to host home football games, beginning in the fall of 2009.

The University recently retained a consultant to conduct a market assessment and assist in evaluating the potential support for premium seating at the renovated stadium. The consultant's analysis included private suites in the south end zone of Foreman Field and preferred seats located at mid-field.

Based in part on the results of the market assessment, the University anticipates proceeding with the development of up to 18 suites and 2,000 preferred seats. Private suites would be available for lease in the south end zone of Foreman Field at an average cost of $20,000 per year. Preferred seats would be located at mid-field and would feature wider bench seats with a backrest. While the annual cost of each preferred seat is still being determined, purchase of preferred seating will require seat holders to also be a member of the Big Blue Club. In addition, the University will maintain its current priority point system for seat location, which is based on giving levels and ticket history. The priority point system has been in place since the opening of the Ted Constant Convocation Center in 2002.

"It is very important that the renovation of Foreman Field include first class amenities such as suites and priority seating areas," says athletic director Jim Jarrett. "The results of this study will be important as our stadium plans are finalized and we are counting on both corporate support and our Big Blue donors to purchase seats in these areas, as well as help create the atmosphere we will need at our home football games."

The market assessment involved an analysis of premium seating for existing NCAA Division IAA football programs, an extensive Internet-based survey, and personal interviews. Twenty-two percent of the individuals polled completed the Internet survey, providing information regarding their interest in season tickets, preferred seating, and private suites for ODU Football. Groups interviewed included Big Blue Club members, ODU athletics corporate sponsors, ODU alumni and Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce members.

ODU will compete on the NCAA Division I-AA level as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. The CAA will begin sponsoring a football championship in the fall of 2007.

The University is currently seeking private support for football scholarships and program needs. A search for a head football coach will begin in November, with final selection expected in January or February. Season tickets sales for football will begin in the spring of 2008.
