NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team has wrapped up the regular season with an 18-2 overall mark and perfect 8-0 CAA record as they head into the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament as the top seed and ranked third in the STX/NFHCA Poll and second in the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll.
In the STX/NFHCA, the Terps once again take the top spot followed by Wake Forest. Following No. 3 Old Dominion is No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Ohio State. Other ODU opponent in the poll include No. 6 Penn State, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 10 Virginia, No. 15 Michigan, and No. 16 Richmond along with CAA schools No. 17 James Madison and No. 18 Hofstra. William & Mary and Northeastern were receiving votes.
In the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll, Maryland is once again the top ranked team followed by Old Dominion. Wake Forest remains at No. 3 followed by No. 4 Ohio State and No. 5 Duke. Other ODU opponents in the poll include No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 Penn State, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 13 Michigan, No. 16 Richmond, and No. 17 Princeton, along with CAA schools No. 18 Hofstra and No. 19 James Madison.
In the national stats, senior midfielder Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) ranks 13th in points per game (2.35), 20th in goals per game (0.80), and sixth in assists per game (0.75). She also remains the nation's leader in penalty strokes with four. Redshirt freshman keeper Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) continues to lead the nation in goals against average (0.64) and is sixth in save percentage (.806).
In the CAA stats, Sensenig leads the league in points (47), assists (15), and assists per game (0.75), and is second in points per game (2.35), goals (16), and goals per game (0.80). Sophomore midfielder Denise Admiraal (Heillo, Holland) is fourth in points (28), fourth in points per game (1.40), goals (12), and goals per game (0.60). Sophomore midfielder Nico van Nispen (Bilthoven, Holland) is tied for fifth in points (24), eighth in points per game (1.20), tied for fourth in goals (9), tied for eighth in goals per game (0.45) and assists (6). Senior defender Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.) is tied for ninth in points (21), tied for sixth in goals (0.45), and tied for eighth in goals per game (0.45).
CAA Tournament action begins on Wednesday at campus sites with #4 Northeastern hosting #5 William & Mary and No. 3 Hofstra hosting No. 6 Delaware in quarterfinal action. The winners advance to the National Training Center. On Saturday in the semifinals, the top seeded Lady Monarchs will take on the winner between the Tribe and Huskies at noon while second seeded James Madison takes on the winner between the Pride and Fightin' Blue Hens at 2:30 p.m. The semifinal winners advance to Sunday's championship game at 1:00 p.m. for the CAA's automatic bid to the 16-team NCAA Field Hockey Tournament.
Admission prices for the CAA Tournament at the National Training Center are $5 for adults, $3 for youth, and free admission for students with ID. A festival pass is available to gain entry to both the field hockey and men's and women's soccer championships being held at the Sportsplex right next to the National Training Center. The festival pass is $20 for adults, $15 for youth, and $50 for a family four pack.
