NORFOLK, VA--Third ranked Old Dominion (17-2) defeated #8 North Carolina (11-7), 3-1 in the annual scholarship match at Foreman Field. Senior Caroline Nichols(Virginia Beach, VA.) scored a goal and assisted on another, while Dana Sensenig (Denver, PA.) assisted on all three goals.
Nichols put ODU up first 20 minutes left in the first half on a penalty corner. Fourminutes later, Nicolien van Nispen (Bilthoven, Holland) scored off a penalty corner to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-0 lead.
The Tar Heels cut into the lead with nine minutes left as Britt van Beek foundthe net. Senior Darcy Pinchbeck (Suffolk, VA) completed the scoring on the day witha goal in the final four-plus minutes on an assist from Sensenig. ODU keeper, Kelly Driscoll came up with three saves on the day.
The Lady Monarchs host William and Mary Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final regularseason home match for five seniors: Julia Muldrow (Va. Beach, Va.), Darcy Pinchbeck (Suffolk, VA.), Dana Sensenig (Denver, PA.), Caroline Nichols (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Anna Rogers (New Bloomfield, PA.).
