CONFERENCE TIME: Last week the Lady Monarchstook a break from conference play by taking on #1 Maryland and#4 Duke, but are back to Colonial Athletic Association play thisweekend hosting 2005 CAA runner-up Northeastern and Hofstra.Hofstra has been in and out of the polls throughout the season andreappeared in the STX/NFHCA Top 20 this week.

TAKING THE CONFERENCE BY STORM: Throughthe five games of CAA play, the Lady Monarchs have yet to letan opponent score. CAA opposition has been outscored 25-0, outshot129-12 and outcorned 96-11.

REGULAR SEASON'S CLOCK IS TICKING: Notmuch time is left in the 2006 regular season...in fact including thisweekend, only two weeks remain. Three of the Lady Monarchs'final four games of the regular season are in conference action. This weekend they host Northeastern and Hofstra andnext weekend welcome William & Mary to Foreman Field. Only one non-conference game remains. Old Dominionhosts North Carolina, the final game in a home-and-home series, next Saturday. That game will be the annual scholarshipgame with the five dollar admission to benefit the Intercollegiate Foundation for Field Hockey Scholarships.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE "D": Redshirt goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll and the Old Dominion defense continueare making it awfully hard for the opposition to score. Old Dominion currently boasts the top-ranked defense in thenation only allowing 0.61 goals per game. Only two schools this season have managed to score more than once, Dukein the double overtime first meeting and Virginia. The Lady Monarchs have posted eight shutouts, including a streak ofsix straight before its loss to #1 Maryland. At home, Maryland has been the only opponent toscore on Foreman Field.Driscoll meanwhile leads the nation in goals against average as only 10 opponent shots have gotten past the ODU goalkeeperin 16 games.

LAST TIME VS. NORTHEASTERN: The OldDominion field hockey team has advanced to its 25th NCAATournament appearance as they captured its 13th ColonialAthletic Association (CAA) title with a 3-0 shuout overNortheastern on Sunday on November 6th. The first scorecame at the 13:20 mark, when Darcy Pinchbeck fired a shot that Husky goalkeeper Colleen Duffy was able to stop, but AnnaRogers was waiting in front of the net to put home the rebound for her fifth goal of the season. The second goal came a littleover 10 minutes later when Pinchbeck sent a pass from the right corner up to Sami McLenegan, who was positioned onthe right wing. Duffy came charging out to cut down the angle on the shot, but McLenegan was able to get it by the oncomingkeeper and into the cage for the 2-0 lead. The third and final score was started once again by Pinchbeck, who centered apass from the left side of the circle. Freshman Katelyn Smither came charging in to meet it and took a diving shot that foundthe back of the net to give the Lady Monarchs the 3-0 lead. Old Dominion goalkeeper Mary Cate Gordon made six saves topost the shutout. Duffy made eight saves for the Huskies, who were outshot 18-7 and outcornered 6-2.

LAST TIME VS. HOFSTRA: The seventh-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team clinched the Colonial AthleticAssociation (CAA) regular season title and rights to host the 2005 CAA Field Hockey Tournament as it handed Hofstra a 1-0loss on October 23rd at Shuart Stadium. Janelle Engle collected the game's lone goal. Engle's team-leading 15th tally of theseason came in the 10th minute of play on a penalty corner with the insert from Dana Sensenig and stick-stop by fellowclassmate Caroline Nichols. The Lady Monarchs outshot the Pride, 9-2, with both Hofstra shots coming in the first half ofplay. Both teams were almost evenly matched in the penalty corner department with Old Dominion holding the slight edge,7-6. In goal, Hofstra's Jessica Cowperthwait made four stops, while ODU's Mary Cate Gordon registered one.

COMING UP: Old Dominion has one more week left in the regular season. The Lady Monarchs host North Carolina next Saturday in the annual scholarship game. The $5.00admission will go to benefit the Intercollegiate Foundation for Field Hockey Scholarship. Old Dominion then wraps up the regular season with a CAA match against William & Mary.Prior to the game with the Tribe, Old Dominion will honor its seniors playing in their final regular season home game.
