NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team continues its No. 3 ranking in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll (NFHCA) and its No. 2 ranking in the Womens Field Hockey.com Poll.
In the STX/NFHCA Poll, Maryland, who the Lady Monarchs will face this weekend, retains the No. 1 position followed by Wake Forest at No. 3. Following the Lady Monarchs in the poll are No. 4 Duke, another ODU opponent this weekend, and No. 5 North Carolina.
Other ranked CAA schools in the poll include No. 16 James Madison and No. 19 William & Mary. Hofstra is also receiving votes.
In the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll, Maryland is also No.1, followed by ODU at No. 2, Wake Forest at No. 3, Duke at No. 4, and Boston College at No. 5. CAA schools also featured in the poll are No. 14 James Madison, No. 17 William & Mary, and No. 19 Hofstra.
In the national stats, senior midfielder Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) is ranked eight in points per game (2.64), ninth in goals per game (1.0), and 17th in assists per game (0.64). Additionally her four penalty strokes rank her first in the category. Netminder Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) tops the goals against average list (0.63) and is 12th in save percentage (.791).
In the conference, Sensenig tops the CAA in points (37), points per game (2.64), goals (14), and goals per game (1.00). She is also second in assists (9) and assists per game (0.64). Sophomore midfielder Denise Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) is tied for seventh in points (18), tied for fourth in goals (8), and fifth in goals per game (0.57). Sophomore midfielder Nico van Nispen (Bilthoven, Holland) with her three game-winning goals is tied for fourth in the category. Driscoll meanwhile is the leader in the CAA in shuouts and goals against average (0.63) and is in third in save percentage (.791).
The Lady Monarchs return to non-conference action this weekend, returning home to Foreman Field for six straight games to close out the regular season. Old Dominion hosts No. 1 Maryland on Saturday, October 14th, looking to avenge its only loss of the year, a 1-0 setback in College Park in early September. Following the game against the Terps, No. 5 Duke and William & Mary will square off in a neutral site match. On Sunday, Old Dominion will host the Blue Devils looking to sweep the season series.
