NEWARK, Del. -- The third-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team's shutout streak continued as the Lady Monarchs blanked Delaware, 2-0, at Rullo Stadium on Sunday.
The gives Old Dominion its 10th straight victory and sixth consecutive shutout. Overall, the Lady Monarchs have collected eight shutouts. Old Dominion improves to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association as they head into next week's match-up with #1 Maryland, the only team to hand the Lady Monarchs a loss this season. Delaware meanwhile falls to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the CAA.
Through the five games of CAA play, the Lady Monarchs have yet to let an opponent score. CAA opposition has been outscored 25-0, outshot 129-12 and outcorned 96-11.
The score was 0-0 at the half, but Old Dominion held a 13-0 advantage in shots and 7-0 edge in penalty corners.
Senior Darcy Pinchbeck (Suffolk, Va.) finally got the Lady Monarchs onto the scoreboard with just over 17 minutes remaining off a pass from sophomore Nico van Nispen (Bilthoven, Holland). The goal was Pinchbeck's seventh tally of the year and second game-winner.
Old Dominion's second goal of the day came seven minutes later from leading scorer senior midfielder Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.). Sensenig put away her team-leading 13th goal off a feed from fellow classmate Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.).
The Lady Monarchs return to non-conference action next weekend, returning home to Foreman Field for six straight games to close out the regular season. Old Dominion hosts No. 1 Maryland on Saturday, October 14th, looking to avenge its only loss of the year, a 1-0 setback in College Park in early September. Following the game against the Terps, No. 5 Duke and William & Mary will square off in a neutral site match. On Sunday, Old Dominion will host the Blue Devils looking to sweep the season series.
