ODU Wins Joe Agee Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, VA--Old Dominion shot a tournament best 277 today asfour players, including two freshmen finished in the top ten to lead the Monarchs to the 18-team Joe Agee Invitational title.

Freshmen Eric Onesi (Bear, DE.) and John Murphy (Wilton, CT. ) tied for seventh at 210, while Junior Stan Guerrero (Tijuana, Mexico) and sophomore Jeffrey Long (Centreville, VA.)tied for tenth at 211. Onesi and Guererro shot a 69 today, while Long shot 67. Jordan Utley of the University of Richmond finished at 205 to win theindividual medalist crown.

ODU finished the tournament at 842 for 54 holes, nine strokes better than Loyola (Md.) and 19 strokes ahead of third place East Carolina.Earlier this season, ODU finished second to the University of Wisconsinat the Mid Pines Tournament and sixth at the Raines Intercollegiate.

Joe Agee, the former William and Mary golf coach the tournament is named after, was a star athlete on the ODU (then known as the Norfolk Division of W&M) basketball and baseball teams in 1959's. He is a member of both ODU and William and Mary Sports Hall of Fames. The Monarchs return to action on Oct. 9 and 10 at the Duke Classic.
