No. 3 Field Hockey Opens Up CAA Play With 5-0 Victory Over Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The third-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team opened up Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play with a 5-0 victory over the Drexel Dragons. The Lady Monarchs shutout their opponent for the second consecutive game and outscored opponents this weekend 10-0.

The win ups the Lady Monarchs mark to 9-1 overall, while the Dragons, also playing in their CAA opener, fall to 6-3 overall after starting the season off 5-0.

Almost like yesterday's game at Princeton, the Lady Monarchs held a 1-0 lead at the half and exploded for four goals in the second half.Senior midfielder Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) led Old Dominion with two goals and an assist.

Unlike the game at Princeton, Old Dominion scored late in the half as Sensenig captured her first goal and eventual game-winner with only 41 seconds remaining in the first half.

Sophomore Denise Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) started the second half scoring barrage just six minutes into the half. She was followed with goals by sophomore Nico van Nispen (Bilthoven, Holland) on a penalty corner, Sensenig's second tally off a pass from senior Anna Rogers (New Bloomfield, Pa.) and senior Darcy Pinchbeck's (Suffolk, Va.) second goal of the weekend.

Old Dominion outshot Drexel 35-6, with 20 of the Lady Monarchs' shots coming on the Drexel net. Old Dominion also outcornered Drexel, 14-4.

Redshirt Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) needed to make only one save as the ODU defense helped the Lady Monarch netminder to her fourth shutout. Drexel's Colleen McAndrew posted a season-high 15 saves.

The Lady Monarch field hockey team continues CAA action next week traveling to James Madison on Friday, September 29th, wrapping up a five-game road trip. Old Dominion then returns home for the first time since its match-up with Michigan back on September 10th for a league meeting with Towson on October 1st.
