NORFOLK, Va. -- The third ranked Old Dominion field hockey team posted its second consecutive shutout as it blanked #20 Michigan, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon on Foreman Field.

The victory improves the Lady Monarchs to 5-1 overall, while the Wolverines fall to 2-5 on the year.

The scored was tied at halftime as the Old Dominion defense kept Michigan without a shot in the first half. The Lady Monarchs attempted three shots at the Wolverine net, but none of the them managed to find the back of the cage. Sophomore Denise Admirall (Heiloo, Holland) had two shots, the first fired over the top of the cage, and the second narrowly missing a tip-in. Freshman Hanna Warren (Green Lake, Pa.) also had a shot, firing hard from the top of the circle but into a stretched out Michigan goalkeeper, Beth Riley.

Michigan kept the ball in ODU territory early in the second half, but it would be the Lady Monarchs who would break the stalemate. On a penalty corner attempt, senior Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.) found the opening to put ODU up 1-0 and tally what would be the game-winner with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game. Four minutes later, Admiraal got a handle on the ball for a hard shot near the top of the circle.

Old Dominion finished the game outshooting Michigan, 11-6. Both teams registered five penalty corners.

Lady Monarch netmider Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) collected her second shutout behind a defensive effort anchored by Nichols. Riley picked up four stops in the loss for the Wolverines.

The Lady Monarchs hit the road for their next five games first traveling to #5 North Carolina on Saturday, September 16th and #4 Duke on Sunday, September 17th. Old Dominion will return to Foreman Field on Sunday, October 1st in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action against Towson.
