NORFOLK, VA--Sergio Miranda knocked in three runs, includinga two-run single in the sixth to lead the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth (25-20/14-9) to 7-5 win over #25 Old Dominion (36-9/18-5) Saturday. VCU scored all but twoof its runs with two outs.

VCU's Tim St. Clair singled home Kwan Evans in the first to put the Rams up1-0, but ODU came right back in the bottom of the frame as Jimmy Miles doubled andlater scored on Dana Arrowood's groundout.

With two outs in the second, Trai Harris doubled home Joe Meador, then Mirandafollowed with a single to plate Harris and give VCU a 3-1 lead. ODU cut it to 3-2 in thefourth as Mike Zahm(Omaha, NE.) doubled and scored on Dana Arrowood's (Woodbridge, VA.) double. Arrowood was cut down at third trying to advance.

In the fifth with two outs, Scott Siezemore (Hickory HS) singled and scored on St. Claire's double. VCU added two more in the six as Miranda singled home both NateAnderson and Trai Harris to make it 6-2.

The Monarchs rallied in the eighth with three runs as Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.)led off with a single, and scored on Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) triple. Miles scored on Zahm's single, and Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) later singled home Zahm. Sizemore gave the Rams a two-run cushion when he tripled home Kwan Evans with two outs in the ninth.

John Leonard picked up the win for VCU. He fanned seven in seven innings ofwork. Mick Mataliano picked up his first save of the season, shuting down the Monarchsin relief. Jason Godin (Stafford, VA.), the CAA's strikeout leader fanned 14 in seven innings of work, but took the loss to drop to 8-2. ODU had one other scoring opportunity in the fifth when Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) led off with a walk and Keith Hahn singled (Valley Stream, NY.), but John Leonard fanned the next two batters and got Miles to ground out to end the inning.

Jimmy Miles, Mike Zahm and Dana Arowood each had two hits forthe Monarchs.

Sunday's game is at 2 p.m. and will be youth day. Area youth who wear theiruniform will be admitted free and allowed to participate in the autograph session afterthe game.
