NORFOLK, VA--The Old Dominion University Baseball Monarchs (35-8/17-4) return to action after exam break to host the defending CAA champion Rams of Virginia Commonwealth University (24-19/13-8). Game one of the three-game series is Fridayat 7 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. ODU remains in the nation's top 25by the four major collegiate polls.
Saturday's game is at 5 p.m. and will be ODU baseball alumni night. Thealumni will be admitted free and introduced prior to the game.
Sunday's 2 p.m. game is Youth Day. All area youth who wear their uniforms will be admitted free and allowed to participate in the post-game autograph session.
Outfielder Jimmy Miles leads the Monarchs in hitting at .360 and stolen bases with 34. Designated hitter/relief pitcher Dana Arrowood is second at .359 with 38 runsbatted in. On the mound Arrowood has seven saves with a 2.48 earned run average anda 3-1 record. Firstbaseman Bryan Cipolla leads ODU in RBI's with 40.
Jason Godin is 8-1 with a 3.49 ERA. He has 108 strikeouts in 85 innings, whilefreshman Dan Hudson is 7-1 with a 2.76 ERA. Kevin Gunter is 5-3 with a 3.54 ERA.ODU's team ERA leads the CAA at 3.41.
The Rams, coached by ODU graduate Paul Keyes ('84) are led by Jared Boldenwith a .399 batting average, while Sergio Miranda is at .399 with a team leading 15stolen bases. Joe Meador leads VCU in homers with eight and 32 RBI. On the mound,VCU has a team ERA of 3.83 led by Harold Mozingo at 2.14 (6-1), followed by JohnLeonard at 5-3 with a 2.83 ERA. The Rams are third in the CAA in team ERA.
