NORFOLK, VA-- Senior righthander Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) hasbeen named CAA Pitcher of the Week. ODU, 29-3/12-0, has won 18 straightgames which ties the 1985 Sun Belt Championship squad with the longestwin steak since ODU went Divison I. The overall school single seasonmark is 21 set by the 1964 NCAA Div.II East regional champions. The Monarchs rank 15th by BASEBALL AMERICA and 18 by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL.
Arrowood saved three games without allowing a run over 3.2 innings ofwork. He struck out eight with no walks. He also hit a two-run homeron Saturday against JMU. He saved the Wednesday night game against Maryland, then Friday and Sunday games vs. JMU.
Thus far Arrowood is 1-0 with a 1.59 earned run average and six saves.He leads the CAA in saves, and also leads the Monarchs with a .431batting average and 33 runs batted in.
As a team, ODU is first in the CAA in earned run average at 3.16 andsecond in hitting at .339. Junior outfielder Jimmy Miles leads the leaguein stolen bases (31), hits (62) and runs scored (41). Miles is tied forthe lead in doubles(14) with Greg Sexton of William and Mary. Catcher Patrick Nichols is tied for third in the CAA with ten homers.
Jason Godin leads the CAA in wins with seven, while freshman Dan Hudson,junior Hunter Hall and senior Kevin Gunter ae tied for second withfive wins.
ODU travels to Hempstead, NY for a three-game CAA series with Hofstrabeginning Friday at 3 p.m.
The Pride are led in hitting by Ricky Caputo who is fifth in the CAAin homeruns with nine. Caputo is hitting .313 with 30 runs batted in.Andy Campana leads with 11 steals. Hofstra swept the Monarchs inHempstead last year.
