NORFOLK, VA-- Former ODU pitching standout Justin Verlander ('04) won histhird major league game in the Detroit Tigers, 18-1 victory over MinnesotaSaturday.
Verlander pitched seven innings with four strikeouts and two walks, andis now 3-2 with a 3.52 earned run average.
Dick Howser AwardCurrent ODU pitchers Jason Godin (Stafford, VA.) and Dan Hudson (VirginiaBeach, VA.) have advanced to the watch list of 64 candidates for theprestigious Dick Howser Award given to the top player in baseball. Godinis 8-1 on the year and leads the CAA in strikeouts, while Hudson, afreshman is 7-1. JMU has two players also on the watch list in KellenKulbacki and Nate Schill.
ODU returns from exam break next weekend when they host the Rams ofVCU in a three-game CAA series, beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
