COLLEGE PARK, MD--Mike Sufczynski and Seth Overbey combined for afive hitter to lead the Terps of Maryland (15-20) to a 7-2 victory over the #15 Monarchsof Old Dominion (31-5) Tuesday evening at Shipley Field.
ODU took a 1-0 lead as Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) led the game off with a solo homer, his third of the season. Maryland tied it when Nick Jowers led off the bottom of the first with a homer. In the second Patrick Nichols(Chesapeake, VA.) led off with a walk, then scored from third on Keith Hahn's (Valley Stream, NY.) RBI groundout.
Maryland took the lead for good in the bottom of the third as Jowers singled,moved to third on Chad Durakis' double, then scored on a groundout by Dan Melvin.The Terps scored three in the fourth as Mike Murphy and Durakis doubled in runs.Nick Jowers followed with a single to plate Murphy to make it 6-3. Maryland added an unearned run in the sixth to complete the scoring.
Nick Jowers led Maryland with three hits and two runs batted in, whileChad Durakis and Mike Murphy each had two hits on the evening. ODU returnsto CAA action on Friday night at 7 p.m. when Northeastern comes to town for a three-game series beginning.
