ODU Ranks 30th By Collegiate Baseball

NORFOLK, VA--The Old Dominion University Baseball Monarchs appear in this week'sCOLLEGIATE BASEBALL poll at number 30. This is the first time since April 25, 2000 the MonarchsHave been ranked.

ODU is 22-3 overall and 6-0 in the CAA, having won 11 straight games. The Monarchs areoff to their best start since 1994. That team was also 22-3 after 25 games. The 22 wins already equalslast year's total.

Through 25 games designated hitter Dana Arrowood (Wodbridge, VA.)leads the team with a .488 batting average. He is second on the squad with 29 runs batted in. Patrick Nichols (Chesapeake, VA.) leads the team in homers with ten and Is hitting .377, while firstbaseman Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) who knocked in 67 runs last year, already has 30 this year. He is hitting .333. Junior Jimmy Miles Orlando, Fla.) is hitting .433 and has 21 stolen bases in 24 attempts, while shortstop Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.) is at .388. Junior Mike Zahm is third on the team with 28 runs batted in.

On the mound, Jason Godin (Stafford, VA.)is 5-0 with three complete games and a 4.00 earned run average. Kevin Gunter (Richland, NJ.) has two complete games and is 3-2 with a 4.23 ERA, while freshman Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, VA.) is 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA. Dana Arrowood's has a 2.19 ERA , Freshman Ross Fetterly (Norfolk, VA.) is at .2.31 and Hunter Hall (Virginia Beach, VA.) is 4-0 with a 2.75 ERA.

ODU hosts William and Mary ina three-game CAA series, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
