OKLAHOMA CITY - Senior Monarch wrestler Adam Wright went 1-1 yesterday in the opening rounds of the 2006 NCAA Division One Wrestling Tournament. Fellow qualifier Ryan Williams fought hard but was eliminated after going 0-2 on the day.
In the first bracket, Wright faced Jeff Foust from Missouri and beat him by a 6-2 decision. Wright then went on to wrestle no. 4 Jacob Rosholt of Oklahoma State, only to be pinned at 1:28.
Wright's next bout will be part of the wrestlebacks fighting for, at best, third place. He will be wrestling Tim Morrison from Rider. The two faced each other back in January at the CAA Duals where Wright won by a 3-2 decision. With the win Wright will have to face the winner of UNC's David Dashiell versus no. 12 Casey Phelps of Boise State. Wright lost to Dashiell by a 5-4 decision earlier this year.
Ryan Williams was eliminated after losing back-to-back matches first to Tyler McCormick of Missouri by a 7-1 decision, then in consolation to Cornell's Michael Mormile 8-5.
