FARMVILLE, VA--Freshman pitcher Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.) picked up his first collegiate win while Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.), Bryan Cipolla( Plainview, NY.), Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) and Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.) each knocked in a run to lead Old Dominion (11-2) to a 6-1 victory over Longwood (8-7) Wednesday afternoon.
Shawler pitched five-plus innings, fanning four and allowing only three hits. Needham Jones (Portsmouth, VA.) and freshman Ross Fetterly (Norfolk,VA.) pitched the final three innings.
In the ODU first Cipolla doubled in Chris Keenan and Gregula followed with aSingle to plate Cipolla. In the sixth inning, Schoendienst singled home Gregula, then a Miles groundout scored Belcher and Keith Hahn scored from third on a wild pitch. ODU's final run came in the eighth as Keith Hahn scored from first on a throwing errorby a longwood outfielder.
Longwood's lone run came in the ninth on Brandon Mauphin's double whichscored Ryan Rowe. ODU returns to action this weekend with a three-game series againstthe defending Atlantic 10 champion Rhode Island Rams. Friday's game is at 5 p.m. atThe Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
