RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Jose Juan Berea scored 20 points and Northeastern finished with a 17-3 run to beat Old Dominion 71-63 in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament Saturday.
The No. 5 Huskies (19-10) will face top-seeded North Carolina-Wilmington in Sunday's semifinals.
The Monarchs (21-9), the defending CAA champion, missed their last seven field goal attempts as Northeastern broke open a close game in the final 4:32. Bobby Kelly scored seven and Aaron Davis had five during the decision 17-point spurt.
The Monarchs went ahead 62-59 behind an Alex Loughton jumper. A pair of free throws by Barea pulled the Huskies to within one, and a Davis 3-point play put Northeastern ahead for good.
Barea, the league's top scorer, added nine assists and two steals, and Kelly added 12 points.
Loughton led Old Dominion with 14 points, and nine rebounds. ArnaudDahi scored 11 with eight rebounds, while Brian Henderson hit for 13points.
ODU, the CAA's second best free throw shooting team (.726) hit only8-for-20 from the line tonight. NU who leads the league in free throws hit12-16 (8-9 in the secon half).
Senior Isaiah Hunter dished out a season high eight assists.
