NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball won its tenth straight as they handed Northeastern an 87-41 loss on Super Bowl Sunday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The Lady Monarchs improved to 12-7 overall and 10-0 in the CAA, while the Huskies dropped to 7-13 overall and 4-8 in the league. Sunday's meeting marked the first game since 1985 between the two teams and the first as league rivals.

The 46-point victory is the largest for Old Dominion this season and biggest since the Lady Monarchs downed Virginia Commonwealth 108-46 during the 2001-02 season.

Junior Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.), one of four Lady Monarchs in double figures, collected her third double-double of the year with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Paula Muxiri (Luanda, Angola) and sophomore Shahida Williams (Newark, N.J.) came off the bench for 14 and 13 respectively, while senior Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) netted 10.

Old Dominion outrebounded the Huskies 62-39, led by Triggs' 12. Sophomore Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) also reset her career-high by hauling in nine.

Northeastern's leading scorer Shaleyse Smallwood, who entered the game averaging 13.9 points per game, was held to just three points. CAA Co-Player of the Week Maralene Zwarich, who last week averaged 18.5 points and 13.0 rebounds, was held to six points and two boards. Ashlee Feldman came off the bench as the lone Husky in double figures with 14.

The Lady Monarchs controlled the game from beginning to end opening the first half with an 11-2 advantage. Old Dominion owned a 48-17 edge at halftime and allowed Northeastern just seven field goals in the half and 15 total for the game.

Old Dominion returns to action on Friday at George Mason at the Patriot Center, site of the 2006 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
