Drexel Downs Old Dominion, 61-42

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Dominick Mejia scored a career-high 27 points and connected on 7-of-12 3-point attempts to lead Drexel to a 61-42 win over Old Dominion on Saturday. Arnaud Dahi (Ivory Coast, Africa)led ODU with 12 points.

Drexel (5-5, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association) took control in the first half as Old Dominion (1-1, 6-2) went scoreless for a span of 13:09. Bashir Mason hit a 3-pointer, was fouled and made the free throw to cap off an 18-0 run to give Drexel a 21-4 lead with 6:41 remaining in the half.

The Dragons set a school record for fewest points allowed in a half, as they led 31-10 at the break. Drexel led by as many as 27 in the contest.Ten points was also new school record for ODU. The previous was 12 againstArizona State in Dec. of 1995 and against UNC Wilmington in the 1996CAA tournament.

The Monarchs hit only one of their first 19 field goal attempts and shot just 12 percent from the field in the first half. Alex Loughton, who had averaged 14.9 points per game entering the game, was held scoreless on 0-for-4 shooting from the field. Arnaud Dahi led the Monarchs with 12 points.

Kenell Sanchez scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half for the Dragons, and Mason dished out 11 assists.

Drexel honored longtime public address announcer, John McAdams, at halftime. McAdams was the public address announcer for 17 years at Drexel before passing away earlier this year.

ODU breaks for exams this week and returns to action on Saturday whenthey host DePaul at 4 p.m. in the Constant Convocation Center.
