NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion Wrestling Monarchs travel to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania this weekend to compete in the Mat Town Tournament. The tournament features talent from schools such as Kent State, Maryland, Ohio, Oregon and Indiana, as well as fellow Colonial Athletic Association team Rider University.
Last year at Mat Town, now senior Robby Gosnell (Warrenton, VA) performed well taking third place at 165 pounds. This year Gosnell returns to Lock Haven at 165 pounds. Freshman Bryan LaShomb (Chesapeake, VA) will wrestle at 125 this weekend after coming off a second place finish at the Missouri Open last weekend.
Representing Old Dominion at 133 pounds are freshman Ryan Williams (Cumberland, PA) and junior Michael Martin (Chesapeake, VA). Williams took seventh last weekend at the East Stroudsburg Open beating out competition from Lock Haven, Columbia, and Rutgers. Martin enters the Mat Town Tourney after facing tough competition from Illinois, Indiana, Edinboro, and Oklahoma at the Missouri Open, where he finished sixth at 133.
Senior Shanon Slack (Richmond, VA), who snagged third place at 141 pounds last weekend in Missouri, will compete again this weekend for the Monarchs. Josh Tyler (Mechanicsville, VA) will wrestle at 149 and Nick Pullano (Chesapeake, VA) at 157 in Saturday's match. Freshmen Bryan Lenhardt (Gloucester, VA) and Kevin Harrington E. Greenbush, NY) are set to wrestle at 174 and 184.
Senior Adam Wright (Dayton, VA) returns to Mat Town this year to wrestle at 197. Last weekend Wright, due to injury, was forced to forfeit his last two matches giving him a sixth place finish. This weekend Wright returns to competition healthy with the possibility of again facing Indiana's Brady Richardson, Champion of Missouri Open at 197.
Senior John Dolida (Bridgewater, NJ) will round out this weekend's tournament at 285 pounds.
