NORFOLK, VA--After extending their streak of shutout victories to four matches, the Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs climbed to No. 3 in the nation in the latest NSCAA/adidas coaches' poll on Tuesday. The Monarchs kicked off CAA play last weekend, edging UNC-Wilmington 1-0 and cruising past Georgia State 6-0. ODU ran their record to 7-1-1 (2-0-0) for the season with the wins. ODU is also ranked #7 in the land by Soccer America, and 10th by Soccer Times and College Soccer News.
Senior forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO), named last week by College Soccer News and Soccer America as National Player of the Week, along with CAA Player of the Week, scored two more goals last Sunday against Georgia State to continue his ascent up national and conference statistical categories. Cvilikas ranks 2nd in the country in goals per game (1.13) and 3rd in points per game (2.25). He also is the CAA leader in goals (9), points per game, and shots per game (4.38). Junior midfielder Gregg Mottinger (Carrollton, TX) is second in the CAA in assists with 4, after a three-assist effort against Georgia State.
The men's soccer team is back in action Friday night as they travel to Delaware to take on the Blue Hens at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, the Monarchs make their first regular season television appearance since defeating Notre Dame 4-1 in 1993, as they travel to Drexel for a conference match-up. ODU-Drexel will be televised on local channel WSKY and Comcast station CN8 live at 12:00 noon. Please check your local listings for availability.
